THE TELFORD CENTRE, TELFORD

Topglass was commissioned by main contractor McLaughlin and Harvey to create a number of frameless glazed elevations, designed by architects Leslie Jones, for the Telford Centre project.

A frameless glass system, comprising structural glass supporting fins and spider bolt fixings, forms part of the external façade of the shopping centre with further installations internally creating highly visually attractive shopfronts. Topglass specialises in bespoke, high performance glazing systems such as those installed at the Telford Centre. A clean frameless glass façade opens up the building and encourages interaction with its on street environment, critical in retail applications. To achieve such technically intricate applications with glass as the main component requires particular expertise when considering performance capabilities such as wind loadings, impact resistance and the system’s capacity for structural movement. In multiple areas the glazing was also required to support ‘floating’ signage without compromising the desired seamless aesthetic.
